Nitrous-Oxide

Nitrous-Oxide was first identified in 1772. But, it wasn’t until World War II that research proved that nitrous could successfully increase engine power.

The British researchers were the first to develop a nitrous-oxide injection system for war planes which would allow them to fly higher and faster without impairing engine reliability, which proved to be an advantage over the enemy.

During the post-war years, nitrous was virtually forgotten until the early 70’s when it hit the racetrack. The secret was out and nitrous was the answer to all performance enthusiasts. Easy to install, simple to maintain and SUPER HORSEPOWER.

Nitrous is a colorless, non-flammable gas with a chemical content of N2O, two atoms of nitrogen combined with one atom of oxygen. (Called laughing gas by doctors.) Nitrous-oxide is stored in bottles at 128°F, and at atmospheric temperature of 70°.

Now, all in all, what does this do for a diesel turbocharged engine? Turbochargers boost horsepower because they pump quantities of air (oxygen) and fuel into the engine. With the cool temp of nitrous-oxide and the properties of it – oxygen and nitrogen, being pressure fed into the compressed air, and in do so allows the fuel system to increase fuel delivery.!

The turbocharger is a complex device consisting of an engine exhaust operated turbine (exhaust side) scavenging power from exhaust gases which otherwise would be wasted on energy. To drive the centrifugal compressor (intake side) to compress fresh air and force it in the engine for combustion. It operates under extreme conditions of heat.

On the exhaust side the temperatures are in the 1,500 degree Fahrenheit area where as the compressor (intake side) is at 350 degrees Fahrenheit and can be driven to speeds up to 100,000 rpm’s sense operation of the turbo charger is dependent on the energy received from the exhaust gases, the speed tends to increase as the load of the engine increases. In other words, the speed is more dependent on the engines load than on the engines speed. If the engine speed remains constant but the load increases the speed of the turbocharger will increase and the air delivery will also increase.

Now in recap, imagine all the games you can play in changing turbo’s for more speed and performance. After all the nuts and bolts remember if the internal parts of the engine are not working properly, you’ll never get the right exhaust, therefore, you will never get the right air in the combustion chamber.

Our turbochargers are designed for the flow you’ll need at the high horsepower range to keep your engine running cool and clean. We have many models of the Schwitzer to fill your specific needs. The basic turbo is designed to come on at 1400 rpm’s and stay full boost until 2050 rpm’s. It comes with a highly polished intake housing with a double cut map with enhancer. A cryogenically treated compressor wheel makes it explosion proof. Also, we are now introducing our twin turbo line using two small air research in parallel. In using two smaller turbos, they have a better response and reaction time. We also have available a jet hot exhaust turbine housing to condense heat and make the turbo spin faster.
